CSU's Smith 24th, Niemeyer 28th in Discus Finals

June 11, 2004

AUSTIN, Texas - Colorado State junior Loree Smith finished 24th in the discus finals today, while senior Keela Niemeyer was 28th at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the University of Texas.

Smith threw 160-9 to finish 24th and that was her only good throw on the day after fouling on her first two attempts. Niemeyer placed 28th with her throw of 154-3, which came on her third and final throw.

Tomorrow Smith will compete in the finals of the hammer, while freshman Magnus Lohse will throw in the finals of the shot put and senior John Woods will compete in the finals of the 200 meters. Both broke the school record in their respective events during preliminaries yesterday.
