AUSTIN, Texas - Air Force sophomore Dana Pounds (Lexington, Ky.) advanced to the javelin throw finals of the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas, after over nine hours of weather delays on Wednesday, June 9.

Pounds finished fourth in the group of 28 competitors, with a throw of 159-11. The sophomore had the second farthest throw of the first flight of 14, but heavy rains and lightning suspended competition. The second flight of athletes was not able to compete until well after 9 p.m.

The top 12 finishers will compete in the event finals tomorrow (June 11) at 8:15 p.m., at the Mike A. Meyers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.

This afternoon, junior Paul Gensic (Fort Wayne, Ind.) will compete in the preliminary round of the pole vault, which is still scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
