SACRAMENTO, Calif. -

Complete Results

On a rainy day in Sacramento, Calif., the Univesity of Wyoming track and field teams had three athletes compete in round one of their individual events at the 2005 NCAA National Championships, on Wednesday. Seniors Zack Schaefer and Kyle Herl competed in the hammer throw, while senior Jessica Fox ran in the 400-meters.

With wet conditions, the men's hammer throw would prove to be tough for many compet.itiors during the preliminaries. Of the 26 throwers, only the top 12 marks would qualify for the finals scheduled for Friday. On Schaefer's last throw of the day, he pulled out a season best toss of 209' 1", which placed him in ninth and a spot in the finals. Herl, unfortunatley was unable to get into his mid-season form. His only mark of the day of 199' proved to be only good enough for 17th.

Later on in the evening, Fox ran in the first heat of five in the 400-meters. In a constant down pour, the senior finished third in her heat with a time of 53.13. This time was the twelfth fastest of the day and qualifies her for the semi-finals on Friday.

Competition will continue Thurday morning with both the track and field events starting at 11:30 PST.
