SACRAMENTO, Calif. -

The 2006 University of Wyoming track and field season came to a close on Thursday when Cowgirl junior Kate Burton competed in the qualifying round of the hammer throw at the NCAA Championships, in Sacramento, Calif. Burton was unable to qualify for finals and was UW's final competitor at the national meet.

A Vancouver, Wash. product, Burton needed to finish within the top-12 to get to the finals on Saturday. Unfortunately, her top mark of the day of 185' 7" was good enough only for 21st place.

"I know that she would have liked to have done better, but this was a good learning experience for her," said UW head coach Don Yentes. "She had a great year and we are just excited she will have another year with us."
