SACRAMENTO, Calif. - TCU track and field received solid performances from several Flyin' Frogs after the first day of the 2006 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the A.G. Spanos Sports Complex on the campus of Sacramento State. The season will continue for five Frogs and one relay team with the men's 4x100 looking to collect the first medal for TCU late Friday afternoon.

The spotlight was on the Frog men as Lewis Banda, Jackson Langat, Otis McDaniel, and the 4x100 squad of Bradley Reed, Justyn Warner, Delwayne Delaney and McDaniel survived the opening day of preliminary competition.

Banda won his heat with a season-best 45.62 clocking in the 400 meters, while Langat placed second in his heat in the 800 meters with a 1:48.35 time. McDaniel clocked a 21.20 to notch the final qualifying spot for the 200-meter semifinal.

The 4x1 relay team posted a runner-up finish in its heat, running a season-best time of 39.30.

The TCU women had a pair of qualifiers in Virgil Hodge and Nathandra John. Hodge was second in her heat in the 200 meters with a 23.00 time, while John recorded a 52.32 for a second-place finish in the 400 meters.

"It was a disappointment not having the women's 4x100 team advance today, but I'm very proud of them," coach Anderson added. "They performed well this year and had a good season. We've got more events to qualify tomorrow so we have to move on and focus on what's ahead of us now."

Qualifying rounds continue for the Flyin' Frogs with six more events on Thursday, June 8. It will be a big day for Hodge and McDaniel as the two will have to battle twice for a spot in the women's and men's 100 meters, respectively, in order to advance to the finals on Friday.

Seniors Julie Curtis, Kip Kangogo, Jackson Langat and Calandra Stewart will look to keep their season going on Thursday. Curtis, will compete in the women's 400-meter hurdles, while Langat aims for a spot in the men's 800-meter finals on Friday.

Kangogo and Stewart will meet at the line for the semifinals of the 1500-meter run in their respective divisions.

The semifinal round of the men's and women's 4x400 relays also get underway on Thursday.
