June 1, 2002

Laramie, Wyo. -- Quincy Howe finished up the Wyoming 2002 outdoor track and field season, on Friday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, in Baton Rouge, La.

Howe, who competed in the triple jump, completed his competition at the championships with a jump of 51' 4 1/4". His finish didn't place him among the qualifiers to move on to the finals. Senior Walter Davis of LSU won the event with a mark of 56' 10 3/4".

A junior from Perrylands, Tinidad, he entered the event seeded third with a qualifying mark of 54' 4 3/4". It was a personal best and a new school record that he set earlier this month at the MWC Championships. "Quincy probably had one of his most disappointing jumping days that he's had in a long time," said head coach Don Yentes. "He just couldn't hit anything and wasn't really on, which was very disappointing. But, he did have a very good season as he was an All-American during the indoor season in the triple jump."
