PALO ALTO, Calif. - The University of Utah track and field team finished the first day of competition at the NCAA West Regional Meet on Friday, May 30. The West region consists of 42 Division l institutions from the following states: Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Utah had a great meet setting three personal records and one school record.

Competing for Utah were Nellie Hammons, Colby Frazier, Brooke LoBue, Trisha Wagner and Jen Jackman. Hammons finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:07.08, which qualifies her for the finals tomorrow. Her mark is not only another personal record, but also a new school record for the sophomore. Frazier finished seventh in the 1,500 meters with a time 3:51.33. LoBue finished tenth in the pole vault with a height of 3.92 meters. Wagner had a great day finishing 16th with a height of 3.82m, which is a new personal record and moves her up to second on Utah's all time list. Jackman also posted a personal record in the 400 meter-hurdles finishing fifth, in her heat, with a time of 1:00.92. Her time also ranks second on Utah's all-time list.

"It was an awesome day," states Head Coach Lisa Archer. "Our Pole Vaulters performed magnificently during a grueling five and a half hour event. We are looking forward to tomorrow's events."

Competition will continue tomorrow beginning with the women's hammer at 10:00 a.m.
