Larson Advances In NCAA Meet 3,000 meter steeplechase finals to be held Saturday night.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State University's Meg Larson will run in the 3,000 meter steeplechase finals at the NCAA Championships Saturday night. Larson qualified for the finals by finishing 11th late Thursday night in the preliminary heat of the steeplechase. Larson finished in 10:12.22, 11th, in the race and was one of 12 athletes to qualify for the finals. The finals are scheduled Saturday evening. Toledo's Briana Shook won the preliminary in 9:58.97. Men's distance runner Rob Vermillion failed to qualify for the finals in the 1,500 meters, when he finished 18th in 38:48.76 in at preliminary heat Thursday night. Vermillion, a senior from Hillsboro, Ore., had entered the meet with one of the nation's top times this season. Connecticut's Dan Wilson won the preliminary event in 3:40.27.
Friday night, two more Rams' student-athletes will be in action.
Loree Smith, who finished 21st Wednesday in the hammer throw, and
teammate Julie Gunzel will compete in the discus.
