FORT WORTH, Texas -



The BYU men lead with 114 points entering the final day of competition at the 2008 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Fort Worth, Texas, while the Colorado State women are in first-place in the team standings with 91 points.

On the men's side, Colorado State is second with 53 points, while Air Force enters Saturday in third with 51 points. New Mexico is in fourth-place with 36 points, while Wyoming has 33 points and is fifth overall. TCU rounds out the team rankings in sixth with 19 points.

BYU holds second place for the women with 51 points, followed by New Mexico in third with 37 points. TCU and Utah are currently tied for fourth with 25 points a-piece, while San Diego State (20), Wyoming (10), Air Force (9) and UNLV (5) round out the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth positions, respectively.

The final day of competition commences on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT, starting with the women's discus.

2008 MWC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Notes:

  • Utah sophomore Lauren Endersen won the women's 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:58.21, while on the men's side Air Force's Ian McFarland captured the event title with a time of 30:44.89. Endersen's mark is fifth all-time in MWC Championship history.

  • In a field that featured three of the top-20 discus throwers in the nation, the country's No. 1 thrower, Leif Arrhenius, won the men's discus with a regional qualifying toss of 194'-06.00" (59.28m). The victory marks the second-consecutive year an Arrhenius has won the discus title as Nick Arrhenius prevailed at the 2007 Championship.

  • BYU's Bryce Bergen won the men's high jump with an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 6'-11.75" (2.13m). Bergen earned runner-up honors last spring in San Diego at the 2007 MWC Outdoor Championships.

  • Chandler Goodwin of BYU won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with the second-best time in MWC Championship history. His time of 8:57.48 is an NCAA regional qualifying mark. On the women's side, the Cougars' Angela Wagner won with a time of 10:23.83.

  • TCU's Kishelle Paul set a new personal best in winning the preliminaries of the women's 100-meter hurdles with a regional qualifying time of 13.64. Emily Pearson of Colorado State (13.68) and Briana Johnson of San Diego State (13.72) also set regional qualifying marks in preliminary action. In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Kellen Curry of Air Force (14.43) placed first in preliminary competition, while Jordan Pitts of TCU (14.59) finished second.

  • In the men's long jump, Wyoming freshman Jeremiah James won with the third-longest jump in MWC Championship history. James leaped 24'-09.25 (7.55m) to post an NCAA regional qualifying mark, while TCU's Jonathan Jackson earned runner-up honors with an NCAA regional qualifying mark and a season-best mark of 24'-8.25" (7.52m). On the women's side, Colorado State's Janay DeLoach won the title with the ninth-best leap in the NCAA this spring. DeLoach soared 21'-0.00" (6.40m) to win the event with an NCAA regional qualifying mark. She moved into second-place all-time in MWC Championship history with the jump.

  • Katie Coronado set a new Lowdon Track and Field Complex record in the women's javelin with a toss of 176'-01.00" (53.67m). She won the title with the second-longest toss in Championship history.

  • Robert Caldwell of New Mexico set a new Championship record with a leap of 18'-1.00" (5.51m) to win the pole vault competition. His jump ties for the second-highest all-time in MWC history and is the second-best in the nation this season. It is also the 13th-best leap in the world this spring.

  • Freshman Stormy Harrison of TCU won the women's shot put title with the second-longest throw in Championship history. Her toss, which is a personal-best and the 20th-best in the NCAA, was 52'-02.50" (15.91m). TCU has now won the women's shot put title the past three consecutive years.

  • Wyoming's Kate Burton took home the women's hammer title with a throw of 192'-9.00" (58.76m). She was followed by Meagan Berg of Colorado State, who tossed a mark of 183'-8.00" (55.99m) for second-place honors, and Utah's Josefin Berg, who hit 182'-3.00" (55.55m) to finish third.
