    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - San Diego State's Leslie Miller successfully defended her Mountain West Conference heptathlon title at the outdoor championships Thursday hosted by the University of New Mexico.

    Miller tallied 5,602 points to win the heptatlon title for the second consecutive year. She surpassed her total of 5,292 total at least year's championship. San Diego State took the top two spots in the two-day event.

    Freshman teammate Shanon Meyer finished second with 5,481 points followed by Anna-Lee Walcott from Brigham Young (5,206).

    The one-two finish plus a seventh place finish by Aztec sophomore Alisha Lasswell gave San Diego State the early team lead with 21 points. BYU is second with six points followed by New Mexico (five), Utah (four) and CSU (3).

    The meet continues Friday with qualifying heats in eight field events and four running events.
