2002 MWC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Underway BYU's Pugsley and SDSU's Miller lead the decathalon and heptathlon, respectively.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - San Diego State's Leslie Miller and BYU's Curtins Pugsley hold the first day lead in the heptathlon and decathlon, respectively, at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of New Mexico. Miller, a senior, scored 3,268 points by posting the fastest time in the the 100-meter hurdles (14.08) and coming in with the second best performances in the shot put (38-feet, 7-inches) and the 200-meter dash (24.76). BYU senior Anna-Lee Walcott finished in second place with 3182 points, just two points better than freshman Shanon Meyer from San Diego State. Pugsley, who holds the conference decathlon record with 7525 points scored in the 2000 championship meet, tallied 3,941 points at the halfway point. He posted the best performances in the 100-meter dash (10.93), long jump (22-fet, 11 1/4-inches) and the high jump (6-feet, 7 1/2 inches). Teammate Devin Scoresby, a junior, was in second place with 3,831 points. The meet continues Thursday with the remainder of the events for both the decathlon and heptathlon. On Friday, qualifying begins in several track events with finals set for Saturday.
