LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming track and field team took a squad of four athletes to the prestigious Modesto Relays in Modesto, Calif., on Saturday, May 12, and came away with four solid performances.

Senior Jason Hammond was the top finisher of the four Poke athletes placing second in the hammer with a toss of 220-3. Teammate Derek Woodske also competed in the hammer, placing 10th with a mark of 190-00. Jason Gervais finished in the top three of the discus event, placing third with a throw of 200-1. Rounding out the results for the Cowboys was sophomore Seth Billy who placed fourth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 51.77.

"This was a very strong meet with solid competitors across the board," said UW assistant track and field coach Paul Barrett, who traveled with the four athletes to Modesto. "I was very pleased with Hammond and Gervais' efforts, it really sets them up well for the conference meet this next week. These guys are ready for some breakthrough performances."

The entire Wyoming team will next compete at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 16-19 in San Diego, Calif.
