FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State sophomore Katie Lloyd is currently in second place after the first day of the Mountain West Conference Championship in the heptathlon with 3,055 points, while junior Cristina Gourdin is third with 2,993 points. The athletes competed despite rainy, cold conditions throughout the day.

Lloyd opened the day with a personal best 14.14 in the 100 hurdles, which is the sixth best time in school history to finish second with 959 points. She then cleared 5-2.5 in the high jump, threw 36-0.25 in the shot put and posted a career-best 26.22 in the 200 meters to finish the day with 3,055 points.

Gourdin also started the day with a personal-best in the 100 hurdles, clocking in at 14.78 which ranks 13th in school history. She also cleared 5-2.5 in the high jump, then won the shot put with a throw of 36-11.75 and clocked a 26.14 in the 200 meters to end the day with 2,993 points.

Freshman Emily Pearson is in sixth place after the first day of competition. She ran a 15.12 in the 100 hurdles, cleared 4-9.75 in the high jump, threw 35-4 in the shot put and ended the day with a personal best 25.37 in the 200 meters for a point-total of 2,847.

Fellow freshman Ashleigh Morton is in ninth place with 2,601 points. She ran a 16.34 in the 100 hurdles, then cleared 5-0.25 in the high jump, threw 35-11.5 in the shot put and then ran a 27.37 in the 200 meters. UNLV's Christine Spence leads the competition with 3,231 points and the men's decathlon leader is Dan Feltman of New Mexico with 3,724 points. The decathlon gets underway with the 110 meter hurdles at noon tomorrow, while the women's heptathlon will begin at 12:30 with the long jump.
