PROVO, Utah - Kevin Johnson of Colorado State leads the men's decathlon with 3,783 points, while San Diego State`s Kristin Olafsdottir leads the women's heptathlon with 3,190 points after the first day of the 2006 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Wednesday at BYU's Clarence F. Robison Track.

Johnson won the long jump with a mark of 23'-1.75" (7.05m) for 826 points and finished in the top-3 in each of the four other events on the day, while Olafsdottir outscored the women's competition in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.11, scoring 963 points.

Air Force's Brian Walsh is second in the decathlon with 3,681 points, followed by BYU's Devin Howe in third place with 3,667 points, Wyoming's Phillip Thomas in fourth with 3,483 points and Air Force's Joel Nolan rounding out the top-five in the men's field with 3,287 points.

In the women's competition, Colorado State junior Katie Lloyd is second with 3,186 points, while New Mexico freshman Sandy Fortner is third with 3,143 points. CSU sophomore Emily Pearson is fourth with 3,122 points and BYU freshman JennaBree Tollestru is fifth with 3,053 points.

Day two events begin Thursday, May 11, at Noon MDT with the men's decathlon 110 meter hurdles, while the women's heptathlon long jump begins at 12:30 p.m. MDT. The multi-events conclude tomorrow, while the rest of the field opens competition on Friday.
