FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State track and field team hosted its final home meet of the season in the Jack Christiansen Invitational today. The Rams posted several good times and marks during the competition.

In the first event of the day, the women,Äôs hammer, Loree Smith provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship with a personal best throw of 188-0. She also improved upon her NCAA provisional mark in the shot put with a throw of 50-8.75. Her throw in the hammer was the winning distance, while she placed second in the shot put behind Andrea Batt of Wyoming. Hannah Metzler also improved upon her NCAA provisional mark in the shot put, placing third with a throw of 49-1.5. Colorado State finished second through seventh in the shot put and had five of the top seven marks in the hammer. In the discus, Keela Niemeyer was second and Julie Gunzel finished third fort he Rams. In the women,Äôs 100 meters, Sarah Niemann and Heather Urbanoski placed third and fourth, while Siobhan Everson-Stewart placed third in the 200 meters and second in the 400 meters. Kim Leal and Jennifer Kintzley placed one-two in the 1500 meters, both with personal best times. Leal recorded a 4:50.63, while Kintzley was just behind her, running a 4:50.65. Freshman Amanda Huddleston won both the long jump and the triple jump for the Rams and recorded a personal best leap of 17-11.75 in the long jump. Christine Ahn won the pole vault after clearing 12-0 and Kate Yee was third with a clearance of 11-0.

For the men, John Woods won both the 100 and 200 meters, while Sherown Campbell won the 400 meters. Jeremy Graff continued his winning ways, finishing as the top collegian in both the shot put and the discus. He was second overall in the shot put, placing behind Drew Loftin, competing unattached. Graff was also third in the discus, finishing behind former Ram Casey Malone and current redshirt Brian Trainor. Graff was also the top Ram finisher in the hammer, placing fourth overall. The Rams took spots two through four in the javelin, with Chris Ahlgrim placing second, Jason Fearheiley third and Zack Nau fourth. Kurt Davies tied his season high in the pole vault after clearing 15-6 to finish second behind Air Force,Äôs Paul Gensic, who cleared 16-0 under fairly windy conditions.

 

 

At the Drake Relays, the 4x800 meter relay team of Mary Ridder, Christy Virgin, Meg Larson and Becky Hammitt placed fourth with a time of 8:59.37, placing behind Michigan, Iowa State and North Dakota State. Elizabeth Roodell and Kelly Schumacher finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 1500 meter finals. Rob Vermillion placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.11. On Friday evening, the women,Äôs distance medley relay team consisting of Kim Watson, Hammitt, Ridder and Larson finished fourth with a time of 11:32.70, finishing behind Kansas State, Washington and Arizona. On Thursday evening, Schumacher placed 10th in the 5000 meters after running a 17:21.82 and Raegan Robb placed 17th in the men,Äôs steeplechase, while Jason Galus placed 24th in the 10,000 meters after running a 33:45.26.

Colorado State will travel to three different meets next weekend. A portion of the team will head south to the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas, while part of the squad will go west to the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, California and the rest of the team will compete in the Cowtown Classic in Greeley, hosted by Northern Colorado. -Go RAMS-
