FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Despite the wind and rain, the Colorado State track and field teams dominated competition at the Ram Open, the second of three home meets for the Rams this season. Colorado State had the winner or the top collegian in 20 of the 33 individual events -- and in four of the 13 the Rams did not have anyone entered.

Freshman Justin Hazzard won both the 110 meter and 400 meter hurdles this afternoon, establishing a new personal best in the 400 hurdles with his time of 52.55. Brian Williams was second in both events and freshman David Hoesly ran a personal best time of 55.66 in the 400 hurdles to place third. Mike Horton was the top collegian and second overall in the 100 meters. In the 200 meters, both Gilbert Gregg and Joel Griffin established personal best times at 22.00 and 22.13, respectively to finish second and third. Gregg narrowly lost the title to Brandon Johnson of CU with the time coming down to the hundredths of a second. Ben Marvin led four Rams across the finish line in the 800 meters and Jason Galus had a personal best time of 4:15.39 in the 1500 meters to finish fourth overall, but he was the top collegian. In the 5000 meters, Ammon Larsen was second overall and the top collegian after running a 15:35.31. Freshman Nate Heyrman won the shot put with a personal best throw of 53-11, while James Cale had a season best throw of 156-5 in the discus to take second in that event (top collegian). Cale, Heyrman and Jace Rivera took second through fourth, respectively in the hammer and Josh Horak won the pole vault after clearing 16-0.

For the women, freshman Andrea Little won the 100 hurdles in 15.05, while Zuzana Krajciova won the 400 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 1:02.11. Krajciova was also second in the javelin with a personal best throw of 100-9. and she won the long jump after leaping 16-8.5. Amber Johnson won both the 100 and the 200 meters, while Heather Urbanoski was second in the 100 and 40th in the 200 and Megan Casey was third in the 100 and second in the 200. Mary Ridder won the 400 meters in 58.41 and won the 1500 meters with a personal best time of 4:44.29. Katie Yemm won the 800 meters with a season best time of 2:22.12. Jill McCormick had a huge day in the throwing events. She was the top collegian and second overall in the shot put with a throw of 42-11.5, was second overall in the hammer and the top collegian with a personal best 171-9 -- which is almost 20 feet better than her previous high -- and she had a personal best throw of 129-10 in the discus to place fifth overall and fourth among collegians. Loree Smith, who is redshirting this season for the Rams, won all three events.

Several Rams are in California at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut and will compete tomorrow before returning to Fort Collins. Next weekend the Rams host the annual Glenn Morris Multi-Meet on Thurs. and Fri. and then will host the annual Jack Christiansen Invitational on Saturday.
