MWC Women's Swimmer And Diver Of The Week Utah's Amber Walter and Kelsey Patterson garner weekly honors.
Dec. 7, 2005 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah's Amber Walter and Kelsey Patterson have been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. It marks the first weekly honor for Walter and the fifth for Patterson, including her third this season. Walter, a junior from Kalispell, Mont., won three of the four individual events she competed in at the Notre Dame Invitational, and was a member of two winning relay teams. Walter took top honors in the 50-yard freestyle (23.18), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.15) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.48), provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships in each of the events. Her times in all three events are MWC season-best marks. In addition, her times in the 50 free and 100 free rank as the fourth and fifth all-time best marks in the MWC, respectively. In addition, she competed on the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team that set a new Utah school record with a time of 1:33.49, which is an NCAA `B' cut. Walter also helped the Utes post a win in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:49.02. Patterson, a junior from Edmonton, Alta., won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 321.80, beating out Notre Dame's Tara Hyer by 8.35 points. Patterson posted her second victory of the Notre Dame Invitational by winning the 1-meter diving event with 305.30 points, which set a new Utah school record, and outdistanced her from second place by 23.3 points.
