Colorado Springs, Colo. - BYU senior Arunas Savickas and sophomore Aaron Russell have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively.

Savickas swam his way to five first-place finishes and three second-place awards at the Speedo Cup, Nov. 30-Dec. 2. The No. 17 Cougars finished second behind No. 6 USC. In the 500-yard freestyle, Savickas set a BYU and MWC record with a time of 4:21.39, a time that also currently leads in the nation. The Panevezy, Lithuania native also placed among the nation's top times after winning the100-yard freestyle (44.68) and 200-yard freestyle (1:36.46) races. As a member of the 200- (1:31.88) and 400-yard medley (3:19.73) and 200- (1:21.94), 400- (2:59.42) and 800-yard freestyle (6:38.19) relay teams, the Cougars posted top times in the conference in each relay event this past weekend. His leg in the 400-yard freestyle relay set BYU and MWC records with a time of 44.30. The Cougars time in the 800-yard relay is among the top in the nation. Savickas earned Swimmer of the Week Honors for the second time this season.

Russell was named Diver of the Week for the second time this season. At the BYU Diving Invitational Dec. 1-2, Russell swept the 1- and 3-meter springboard and the 10-meter platform diving events with scores of 349.75, 540.65 and 282.05, respectively. The Provo, Utah native's 3-meter board score currently leads the conference.

On Deck: BYU is finished competing for the fall. The Cougars resume competition when they host Washington, January 5.

Other MWC schools in action this week: No. 26 UNLV is the only school with fall matches still on top. They head to in state rival, Nevada, Dec. 9 and finish the fall season hosting the UNLV Invitational, Dec. 16-18.
