Dec. 7, 2000

Colorado Springs, Colo. - University of New Mexico junior Quinn Michie and BYU sophomore Kelli Einfeldt have been selected as the Mountain West Conference women's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively.

At the Arkansas Invitational Dec. 1-3, Michie swam to a University of New Mexico record and a MWC top time at 2:05.84 in the 200-yard individual medley, breaking the record she set last year by almost a second. In the 400-yard individual medley, she finished with a time of 4:31.35, which also leads the conference. Her strong finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (58.81) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.34) also rank in the top four best times in the conference. The El Paso, Texas, native was also a member of the Lobos 800-yard freestyle (7:48.94) and 200- (1:49.62) and 400-yard (3:59.30) medley relay teams.

Earning Diver of the Week honors for the second time this season, Einfeldt placed second on the 1-meter springboard and third on 3-meter springboard with scores of 266.85 and 465.70, respectively, at the BYU Diving Invitational December 1-2. The Salt Lake City, Utah, native posted her second best score of the season on the 3-meter event.

On Deck: New Mexico and BYU are done for the fall. New Mexico hits the pool again January 19 at the University of Denver and the Cougars resume competition when they host Washington, January 5.

Other MWC schools in action this week: UNLV is the only school with fall matches still on slate. They head to in state rival Nevada, Dec. 9 and finish the fall season, by hosting the UNLV Invitational, Dec. 16-18.
