Utah's Statkeviciute and BYU's Einfeldt Named MWC Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week Both garner honor for the second time this season.
Nov. 21, 2001 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah sophomore Neringa Statkeviciute and BYU junior Kelli Einfeldt have been named Mountain West Conference women's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively. Statkeviciute garnered her second career swimmer of the week award with her performance in dual meets against Pacific and San Diego State last weekend. Against Pacific on Nov. 16, the Lithuanian native finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.61. On Nov. 17 against San Diego State, she turned in first place performances in the 50-yard freestyle (24.20), 100-yard freestyle (52.70) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.38). Statkeviciute has six consecutive first place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle this season. Einfeldt, a Salt Lake City, Utah, native swept the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events in both of the Cougars dual meets last weekend. On Nov. 16, she scored 236.48 on the 1-meter and 277.43 on the 3-meter against San Diego State. Against Pacific on Nov. 17, the five-time diver of the week, turned in scores of 237.53 and 270.23 on the 1-meter and 3-meter, respectively. The Utes return to competition on Jan. 11 against Washington in Federal Way, Wash., while the Cougars have the week off before competing at the Speedo Cup in Long Beach, Calif. on Nov. 29.
