MWC Announces Swimmers and Divers of the Week

UNLV'S Eldridge and English, Wyoming's Bogner named MWC Men's Swimmer and Divers of the Week; Utah's Lopus and Wyoming's Ortiz garner women's swimmer and diver of the week accolades

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

UNLV sophomore Calan Eldridge earned Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week honors, while UNLV junior Vincent English and Wyoming sophomore Kyle Bogner were named men's co-divers of the week.  Utah freshman Whitney Lopus and Wyoming junior Stephanie Ortiz earned swimming and diving plaudits on the women's side.

Eldridge, from Stouffville, Ontario, won two individual events last weekend to help UNLV defeat Utah, 196-98. The sophomore won the 100-yard freestyle in 45.83 before recording a time of 1:40.84 in the 200-yard freestyle to capture the event. Eldridge also swam in the Rebels' 400-yard freestyle relay, as UNLV touched first with a time of 3:04.74.

English, a native of Renton, Wash., was the Rebels' top male diver against Utah. The junior captured first place on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 252.07, and also finished first on the 3-meter board with a mark of 261.53.

Bogner, a sophomore from Centennial, Colo., had a personal-best performance last week against TCU. He scored 325.50 to win the 1-meter springboard, and followed with a fifth-place 249.90 on the 3-meter board.

Lopus, who hails from Scottsdale, Ariz., finished first in three events at UNLV, as the Utes defeated the Rebels, 179-121. The freshman won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.43 and followed with a time of 54.17 in the 100-yard butterfly. Lopus placed second in the 200 fly (2:05.51) and also swam on Utah's 400-yard freestyle relay team that won in 3:28.54.

Ortiz, a product of Colorado Springs, Colo., broke a school record for the second straight week by scoring 313.73 on the 3-meter springboard. The junior also won the 1-meter title against the Horned Frogs with a six-dive total of 292.35.
