Nov. 17, 1999

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BYU’s Gary Tan and Scott Randall were named the Mountain West Conference’s Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively.

Tan, a 17-year old freshman from Singapore, swam to two first-place finishes in the Cougars’ dual meet with UNLV on Friday, Nov. 12. Tan’s time of 1:50.00 in the 200 Back broke his own conference-best time which he established a week earlier. Tan also surpassed his league-high mark in the 200 IM with his time of 1:53.89. Tan is a national record holder in his native Singapore in the 200 Back.

Randall, a freshman from Mesa, Ariz., won the 3-Meter diving competition in the Cougars’ dual meet against UNLV on Friday, Nov. 12. His score of 260.45 was 20 points higher than his closest competitor. Competing in only his second collegiate meet, Randall improved upon his third-place finish the week before in a dual meet against Utah.
