SDSU's Casillan and New Mexico's Barras Named MWC Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week

Casillan garners honor for the first time this season.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Meghan Casillan and New Mexico freshman Becca Barras have been named Mountain West Conference women's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively.

Casillan placed first in three individual events, establishing team season-best times in all three, and helped bring home a relay victory last weekend in a dual meet against the University of San Diego. Individually, Casillan swam the 100-yard backstroke in 58.69, the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.10 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:10.65. She also was a member of the 200-yard medley relay team that posted a time of 1:48.68 on the way to a victory. This is her second career swimmer of the week award.

Barras garnered her second diver of the week award in three weeks with her performances in two meets last week. Against Colorado State and Northern Arizona on Nov. 9, Barras swept the 1-meter springboard and 3-meter springboard, tallying scores of 252.55 and 278.74, respectively. The Canadien native followed that effort with a victory on the 1-meter (253.15) and a second place finish on the 3-meter (417.10) at the Lobo Invitational.

The Aztecs return to the pool this weekend with dual meets against Utah on Friday, Nov. 16 in Salt Lake City and BYU, Saturday, Nov. 17 in Provo. The Lobos will face Wyoming in a dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Albuquerque.

This week in the MWC: Air Force travels to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete in the Minnesota Invitational, Friday-Sunday, Nov. 16-18, while BYU host San Diego State on Friday, Nov. 16 and Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 17. Colorado State will host the FAST Fall Splash on Nov. 16 at Moby Pool, UNLV hosts UC Irvine on Nov. 17 and the Utah women will dual with on Nov. 16 and San Diego State on Nov. 17.
