MWC Women's Swimmer And Diver Of The Week UNLV's Amanda Weinbrecht and TCU's Kelly Seely garner weekly honors.
Nov. 9, 2005 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV's Amanda Weinbrecht and TCU's Kelly Seely have been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. It marks the first weekly honor for Weinbrecht and the second for Seely. Freshman Weinbrecht won two individual events and assisted in the 200-yard medley relay team victory in UNLV's win at TCU. The San Diego, Calif., native won the 100-yard backstroke by almost a second with a time of 58.31 and completed the backstroke sweep with a time of 2:04.29 in the 200-yard backstroke. Her time in the 200 back was the 10th fastest in UNLV history and the best mark in the MWC this season. In addition, UNLV's 200 medley relay team took top honors in a time of 1:47.69 as Weinbrecht led off the race in the backstroke. Seely, a senior from Friendswood, Texas, placed first in all four events on the week against MWC competition. Against UNLV on Nov. 4, Seely captured the 1-meter event with a score of 240.30 and the 3-meter with a 257.03. In TCU's win over Air Force on Nov. 5, Seely broke the school record on the 3-meter board with a score of 322.28. The previous record of 316.51 was established in 1991 by former TCU All-American Kelly Crowell. She also won the 1-meter board with a 276.68. Seely's marks against Air Force are the top diving scores in the MWC this season.
