BYU's Covington and Wyoming's Colarie Named MWC Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week Covington captured the 200-meter breaststroke and 100-meter breaststroke at the Big West Shootout.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU freshman Tamber Covington and University of Wyoming sophomore Lauren Colarie have been selected as the Mountain West Conference women's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively. At the Big West Shootout Nov. 3-4, in Irvine, Calif., Covington finished strong in a number of events while competing against schools such as Washington, UC Santa Barbara, Cal State Northridge, Pacific and conference rival Air Force. Covington took 1st-place in the 200-meter breaststroke on both days of the event with times of 2:17.75 and 2:18.04, respectively. The El Dorado Hills, Calif., native also won the 100-meter breaststroke, placed second in the 200-meter individual medley (2:09.13) and third in the 400-individual medley with a time of 4:33.86. Covington set personal bests, and topped the conference's fastest times for each event she competed in at the Big West Shootout. She currently leads the conference in fastest times in four different individual events. Against Metro State Nov. 4, Colarie was instrumental in the Cowgirls' 131-34 blowout victory. The Grand Junction, Colo., native swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with scores of 264.30 and 277.80, respectively. Her score on the 1-meter is not only a personal best, but also the eighth best in Wyoming history. Her score on the 3-meter board is the third best in school history. To further sweeten the victory, Colarie's finish earned her automatic qualification in the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the 3-meter springboard event. On Deck: BYU heads to the New Mexico Invitational, Nov. 10-11, while Wyoming gets a week of rest before facing Denver, North Texas and the University of Northern Colorado Nov. 17.
Other MWC schools in action this week: Air Force hosts Colorado State and UNLV hosts Utah, Nov. 10.
