Three Repeat as Mountain West Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week AFA's Knaute and Utah's Jones repeat as men's honorees, while TCU's Ferguson has repeat women's diving honors.
Nov. 8, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force's Chris Knaute and Utah's Andrew Jones were named the Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for the second consecutive week. TCU's Jennifer Ferguson also earned her second straight women's diver of the week selection, while Utah's Alison McInturff was voted as the women's swimmer of the week. Knaute placed first in four events at the Lincoln Aquatics Shootout in Irvine, Calif. Last Friday, he clocked a 15:44.56 in the 1650-yard freestyle, beating the second place finisher by over 16 seconds. The senior won the 400 individual medley by three seconds in 3:59.26. The Houston, Texas, native came back Saturday to win the 200 (1:38.91) and 500 (4:33.67) freestyle events. Jones, from Salt Lake City, Utah, won both diving events against UNLV to extend his winning streak to four events. The senior scored 280.10 on the one-meter dive and followed that with a 311.30 in the three-meter event. After setting the third-highest six-dive score for the three-meter in TCU history on Oct. 25, Ferguson shattered her own mark twice over the next two meets. Just a freshman, Ferguson recorded a winning score of 309.23 against Colorado State, only to better that against BYU with a 314.70 victory, just two points shy of second all-time. The Beaconfield, Quebec, native also swept the one-meter events against the Rams and Cougars. Against Colorado State, Ferguson slated a 276.00 in six dives off the one-meter, while recording a score of 297.30 against BYU, the second-highest score in TCU history. For the week, Ferguson went undefeated in the one- and three-meter diving events, increasing her record to 6-0 in her short collegiate career. Her scores against BYU are currently first in the league. McInturff posted the top times in the conference this season with a 1:51.62 in the 200 freestyle and a 2:05.56 in the 200 individual medley en route to winning three events against UNLV Saturday. Her 52.31 winning time in the 100 freestyle was just one-thousandth of a second off her MWC best time this season (52.30 against Denver on Oct. 27).
