Utah's Statkeviciute And BYU's Einfeldt Earn MWC Women's Swimmer And Diver of the Week Accolades Both garner honor for the first time this season.
Nov. 8, 2001 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah sophomore Neringa Statkeviciute and BYU junior Kelli Einfeldt have been named Mountain West Conference women's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively. Statkeviciute, a native Lithuanian, turned in a strong performance in a dual meet against two-time MWC champion BYU on Nov. 2, winning both of the events she competed in. She won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.85, the fourth fastest time in Ute history, and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.26, the second fastest time in school history in that event. This is Statkeviciute's first swimmer of the week award of her career. At the same meet, Einfeldt swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events in convincing fashion, earning the fourth diver of the week award of her career. On the 1-meter springboard she scored 246.80, winning the competition by 34.95. On the 3-meter springboard she compiled a score of 285.45, 62.90 points higher than the second place finisher. The BYU women return to action on Friday, Nov. 9 in a dual meet against UNLV in Provo, while Utah returns to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 10 by welcoming the Rebels to the Ute Natatorium for a dual meet.
This week in the MWC: New Mexico welcomes Colorado State and Northern Arizona to Albuquerque for a meet on Thursday, Nov. 8. The Rams will stay in Albuquerque for the Lobo Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10. San Diego State takes on cross-town rival University of San Diego on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m, while Wyoming competes in the Denver Pentathlon in Denver, Colo., on Saturday at 2 p.m.
