MWC Announces Swimmers and Divers of the Week
BYU'S Kendrick and TCU's Hesselberg earn MWC Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, while Cougars sweep women's honors

BYU sophomore John Kendrick and TCU senior R.J. Hesselberg were named Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, while the Cougars swept the women's side with sophomore Rachel Grant earning swimming plaudits and junior Tawni Jones receiving diving honors.
Kendrick, from Plano, Texas, won two individual events to help BYU to a 153-147 victory in its season opener at TCU. The sophomore won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:45.63, and followed with a time of 9:45.73 in the 1,000-yard freestyle to win the event.
Hesselberg, a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, set a TCU record and a new personal best by scoring 380.10 on the 3-meter springboard against BYU. The senior surpassed his previous score of 359.80 that won an MWC individual championship last spring. Hesselberg also scored 281.77 to place fourth on the 1-meter board.
Grant, who hails from Walnut, Calif., was the only swimmer in the meet at TCU to win three individual events, including the 100-yard butterfly (56.22), 200-yard butterfly (2:01.30), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.67). The sophomore's personal best time in the 100 fly also set a new high-altitude record for BYU. Grant also helped the Cougars' 400-yard medley relay win with a time of 3:52.37.
Jones, a product of Mesa, Ariz., finished first on both springboards versus TCU by scoring 278.85 on the 1-meter and 297.90 on the 3-meter. The junior, who is BYU's only returning All-American, also won the 1-meter title vs. New Mexico and Northern Arizona by scoring 299.80.
