Mountain West Announces Women's Swimmer & Diver of the Week - October 24, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Melanie Garibaldi and Colorado State freshman Ariana Milone have earned Mountain West Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week honors, respectively, for meets contested from Oct. 16-21, 2012. It is the first Mountain West career honor for both student-athletes.
Garibaldi, a native of Gold Coast, Australia, won three individual events and a relay for the Aztecs in last week's Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif. Garibaldi won the 400-yard individual medley (4:20.13), the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:55.22) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.30). Her time in the 1,650 free ranks seventh in the nation. She also swam the second leg of the winning 800-yard freestyle relay. The team recorded a time of 7:35.27, a mark that ranks 10th in the nation. The Aztecs won the overall team title with 1,349 points over the two-day meet.
Milone won the 1-meter springboard (277.73) and the 3-meter springboard (316.73) at the Rams' dual meet at the University of Denver last week. Both marks qualify the The Woodlands, Texas, native for NCAA Zones in March 2013 and set pool records at the El Pomar Natatorium. It was Milone's first collegiate competition.
