Former University of Wyoming swimmer Scott Usher finished ninth in the 200-meter breaststroke, Thursday evening at the 2005 FINA World Championships in Montreal, Canada.

Usher, a Grand Island, Neb. native, swam to a ninth place semifinal time of 2:13.03 and missed qualifying for tomorrow night's final by just 53 hundredths of a second. He also swam the ninth fastest preliminary time this morning when he turned in a time of 2:13.89, out of 58 worldwide competitors.

Brendan Hansen, the World Record holder in the event, turned in the fastest semifinal time as he touched the wall in 2:10.23. Canadian Mike Brown turned in the second fastest time of 2:11.26 and Japan's Genki Imamura rounded out the top-three with his swim of 2:11.77.

The 200-meter breaststroke finals will begin tomorrow night at 5 p.m. (Mountain Time).

Usher will return to action next Tuesday for the 2005 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool at the Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine, Calif. The duel is between the United States and Australia and will feature each countries top swimmers.
