Usher Finishes Third in Semi-Finals of 100 Breaststroke at US Olympic Trials
The finals of the 100 meter breaststroke will be held Thursday night.

University of Wyoming junior Scott Usher finished third in the semi finals of the 100 meter breaststroke at the 2004 US Olympic trials in Long Beach, Calif. Usher, a Grand Island, Neb. native, swam to a third place time of 1:01.07 in the event. Four time NCAA champion Brendan Hansen won the event in an American Record Time of 1:00.13. Mark Gangloff placed third with a time of 1:00.98. Usher finished ahead of Ed Moses who swam a fourth place time of 1:01.82. Moses held the American record at 1:00.21 until Hansen broke it tonight. Usher placed second in preliminary action this morning with a time of 1:01.27. "Scott had an awesome swim and keeps getting faster," said UW head coach Tom Johnson. "He really came roaring back in the second 50 meters of the race. He swam a time of 31.99 in the second half of the race and is now one of only four swimmers in the world that have ever been under 32 seconds on the second half of a 100 breaststroke. "We are very excited for tomorrow's finals. We are going to loosen up in the morning then come back to the pool tomorrow night and see if we can bring home an Olympian." The finals of the 100 meter breaststroke will be held tomorrow night. Usher must finish in the top two of the event to secure himself a trip to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
