SALT LAKE CITY -- Several University of Utah swimmers representing Cottonwood Heights Aquatics Team competed in the Speedo Grand Challenge over Memorial Day weekend.

The Grand Challenge is a kick off to the summer long-course season and is known internationally to attract some of the best athletes in the world. Swimming along side a handful of Ute swimmers were American record-holder Jason Lezak, 2004 US Olympians Dana and Tara Kirk and a host of others.

Leading the way for the Ute contingency was 2006 MWC Women's Swimmer of the Year Amber Walter. She made the super-final in the 50-meter free, finishing third by clocking a time of 26.81.

"Our swimmers got their summer season off to a good start," said Utah head coach Michael Litzinger. "It was a great first step as we focus on preparing for nationals."

The next competition of note will be the CHAT Invitational held in Salt Lake City. It will run from June 21-24, preparing the athletes for the US National Championships and Pan-Pacific Team Trials held in Irvine, Calif., Aug. 5-9
