LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming diver John Lynch competed in the 2006 Amsterdam Diving Cup last weekend in Amsterdam, Holland.

Lynch, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, placed ninth in both the 1 and 3-meter diving events in an international field of 16 divers. He dove to a score of 240.15 in the 1-meter event and to a score of 259.55 in the 3-meter event.

With his finishes, Lynch qualified to compete as an exhibition diver in the Dutch National Championship which will be held May 26-28.

"This is great exposure for John and the University of Wyoming," said UW diving coach Ben Herdt. "The experience of competing at an international meet will make John a better competitor as well as a better diver. It is great that he has qualified for the National Championships, it will be another chance for him to compete and receive feedback from judges that have never seen him dive before."
