Scott Usher to Compete in 2005 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

Three-time All-American poised for his final NCAA Championships.

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Senior Olympian and three-time All-American Scott Usher will represent the University of Wyoming at the 2005 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships for the third consecutive year, tomorrow through Saturday, in Minneapolis, Minn.

Usher, a native of Grand Island, Neb., will compete in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday and the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday. The preliminaries of each event will begin at 10 a.m. and the final's will begin each day at 6 p.m. (Mountain Time)

Last year, Usher was selected as an All-American in both the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke events. He finished second in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:07.66) and third in the 100-meter breaststroke (59.01). In the 200, Usher finished behind world record holder and three-time Olympic medalist Brendan Hansen of the University of Texas. In the 100, he finished behind Hansen and fellow United States Olympian Mark Gangloff of Auburn University. With his top-three swims, Usher earned 33 team points giving Wyoming a 22nd place finish in the nation.

As a sophomore, he placed sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke (1:57.05) and 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke (54.75), at his first NCAA Championships. He was selected as an All-American in the 200 and an Honorable Mention All-American in the 100.

This year's NCAA Championships will be held at the University Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
