MWC Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week UNLV's Noble and New Mexico's Barras take home conference honors.
Feb. 14, 2002 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV sophomore Alyson Noble and New Mexico freshman Becca Barras have been named Mountain West Conference women's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively. In the Rebels dual meet victory over Air Force last weekend, Noble continued her season-long winning streak in the 1000-yard freestyle, and brought home a victory in the 500-yard freestyle while helping the 200-yard freestyle relay team to a win. In the 1000 free, Noble clocked in at 10:14, nearly 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up, while finishing the 500 free in 4:58.91. In the 200 free relay, the Moreno Valley, Calif., native teamed with Lorena Diaconescu, Raluca Udroiu and Julie Unrau to finish in 1:37.99 for the win. Barras claimed her fourth diver of the week award of the season with her performance at the Air Force Diving Invitational Feb. 1-2. At Air Force, the Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, native was victorious in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, beating out divers from the MWC and Northern Arizona, among others. In the 1-meter, Barras tallied a score of 251.15 and followed that with a score of 449.40 in the 3-meter event.
All Mountain West Conference institutions return to competition at the Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., Feb. 27-Mar. 2.
