MWC Women's Swimmer And Diver Of The Week Utah's Amber Walter and Wyoming's Emily Keefer garner weekly honors.
Feb. 8, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah's Amber Walter and Wyoming's Emily Keefer have been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. It marks the third weekly honor for Walter and the first for Keefer this season. Walter, a junior from Kalispell, Mont., won two individual events and one relay as Utah beat BYU, 128-115, to clinch the MWC regular-season title. Walter won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.19 and took home top honors in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.08. Her time in the 50 free was just .01 seconds off her best mark. In addition, she was a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that captured the top spot in 3:29.00. Walter holds the top times in the MWC this season in the 50 free, 100 free and 100-yard breaststroke. Keefer, a junior from Stillwater, Minn., claimed one first-place and one second-place finish in Wyoming's dual meet win over Air Force. On the 1-meter board, Keefer finished with a score of 272.33, which marked the third-highest score in school history, a career best and an NCAA Zone "E" Championship qualifying score. In addition, her score on the 1-meter was the fifth-best mark in the MWC this season. She finished second on the 3-meter board with a score of 262.88.
