MWC Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week BYU's Mark Chay and Scott Randall honored
Feb. 2, 2005 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU sophomore Mark Chay and senior Scott Randall have been named Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. Chay garnered his third career weekly award, while Randall is a five-time honoree. Chay, a native of Singapore, had two individual victories, a second place finish, and helped two Cougar relay teams to first-place finishes in last week's conference dual meet wins over Air Force and Wyoming. Against the Falcons, he won the 200-yard individual medley (1:52.57) and swam the lead-off leg for the 400-yard medley relay squad which clocked in at 3:22.21. His time in the 200 IM is the third best in the MWC this season. Against Wyoming, his winning time of 1:39.01 in the 200-yard freestyle is the top time in the conference this year, as well as a NCAA provisional qualifying time. He also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (52.99) and helped the 200 medley team clock in a time of 1:30.94 for a first-place finish. Randall, a Mesa, Ariz., product, brought home three first-place finishes and a second-place finish vs. Air Force and Wyoming. In the win over the Falcons, he turned in scores of 213.55 in the 1-meter and 195.15 in the 3-meter. Against the Cowboys, he placed first in the 3-meter dive (213.35 and notched a score of 198.95 in the 3-meter dive, finishing second.
