BYU's Mason and Patil Sweep MWC Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week Honors Duo helps Cougars improve to 12-0 on the season in dual meets.

Colorado Springs, Colo. - BYU sophomore Jeff Mason and junior Viraj Patil have been named Mountain West Conference men's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively. Mason swam to eight 1st-place finishes in the Cougars sweep of conference schools Utah, Air Force and Wyoming. Against Utah Jan. 9, Mason won the 50-yard freestyle (21.09), 100-yard freestyle (45.74) and was a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:24.57). Against Air Force Jan. 12, Mason won the 50 freestyle (20.90) and the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.40, a season best and 4th fastest in the conference. Against Wyoming Jan. 13, the Mesa, Ariz., native set a personal best and 6th fastest time in the conference in the 200 freestyle (1:40.52). He was also a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:23.25) and won the 100 freestyle (44.56). The Cougars now have a perfect 12-0 record in dual meets this season and a No. 17 national ranking. Patil, a native of Nashik, India, swept the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events against Air Force and Wyoming, Jan. 12 and 13. The first time Diver of the Week award winner earned scores of 211.30 and 201.85 on the 1-meter and scores of 222.10 and 219.00 on the 3-meter, respectively. On Deck: BYU next competes at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., Feb. 14-17.
Other MWC schools in action this week: Air Force hosts Wyoming, Jan. 20 and travels to University of Denver, Jan. 22. UNLV hosts UC Santa Barbara, Jan. 20 and sends divers to the UCLA Invitational Jan. 19-20.
