Colorado Springs, Colo. - BYU seniors Melissa Thompson and Anna Tutunnikova have been selected as the Mountain West Conference women's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively.

Against conference foe and in state rival Utah Jan. 9, Thompson finished first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.18, close to two seconds faster than the top Ute finisher. Three days later against Air Force, Thompson raked in another 1st-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.12. The Orem, Utah, native set a season best time in that event which ranks 2nd thus far in the conference.

Tutunnikova racked up five 1st-place awards in dual meet sweeps against conference schools Utah, Jan. 9, Air Force, Jan. 12 and Wyoming, Jan. 13. Against Utah, the senior hailing from Moscow, Russia, won the 1-meter springboard event with a score of 27.82 and placed third on the 3-meter board with a score of 239.92. In her next two meets, Tutunnikova would sweep both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards with scores of 186.25/185.20 on the 1-meter and 186.25/205.95 on the 3-meter, respectively. Her scores in those events are all personal bests for the season.

On Deck: BYU travels to Ft. Collins, Colo., to take on Colorado State, Jan. 19 then competes in Denver against University of Denver and New Mexico State, Jan. 20.

Other MWC schools in action this week: Air Force hosts New Mexico State and University of Northern Colorado, Jan. 19 before hosting conference schools Wyoming and New Mexico, Jan. 20. Air Force then travels to University of Denver, Jan. 24. New Mexico is at University of Denver, Jan. 19. Colorado State hosts Utah, Jan. 20. San Diego State travels to Hawaii Jan. 19 and then Pepperdine, Jan. 24.
