BYU’s Lueken and Kunkel Named Mountain West Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week Lueken sweeps 200 Free, while Kunkel earns honor for second week in a row. (1/19)
Jan. 19, 2000 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BYU sophomore Amy Lueken and senior Rachel Smith Kunkel were named the Mountain West Conference Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for their performances last week. Lueken, a native of Tuscon, Ariz., captured the first two wins of her collegiate career in the 200 Free in BYU’s dual-meet sweeps of Air Force and Wyoming, Jan. 14-15. Against the host Falcons, Lueken swam to a first-place finish with a time of 1:58.29. The following day in Laramie, she swam to a meet-best time of 1:57.90. Kunkel, a senior All-American from West Valley City, Utah, earns her second consecutive conference diver of the week honor and her fourth this season. Against Air Force, Jan. 14, Kunkel finished first in the 1-Meter competition and second to teammate Kelli Einfeldt on the 3-Meter board. The following day against Wyoming, she swept both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter competitions. BYU returns to the pool this weekend when it hosts a pair of dual meets against conference foes Colorado State and New Mexico.
