MWC Men's Swimmer And Diver Of The Week BYU's Brett Allen and Utah's Sterling Richards earn weekly honors.
Jan. 18, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU's Brett Allen and Utah's Sterling Richards have been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. Allen earns his second honor of the season and his career. Meanwhile, Richards picks up his fourth honor this year and his seventh career weekly award. Allen, a junior from Houston, Texas, helped lead the Cougars to a 134-109 victory over TCU Jan. 13. He captured first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (20.40) and the 100-yard freestyle (45.63). In addition, he swam the final leg of the 400-yard medley relay team that captured top honors in 3:20.86. His win in the 50 free gives him a perfect 7-0 mark in that event, while he has won the 100 free in six of seven races this season. Overall, Allen has 18 first-place finishes this season, including relays. Richards, a senior from Salt Lake City, Utah, won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events against TCU. Richards scored 360.14 points in the 1-meter, 25.04 points ahead of TCU's Kelly McCain. In the 3-meter, Richards tallied 380.83 points to outdistance himself from second place by 44.08 points. His point totals against TCU are the top marks in the MWC this season.
