Mountain West Conference Swimmers and Divers of the Week Utah sweeps women's awards, while TCU sweeps men's side.
Jan. 17, 2007 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - This week's Mountain West Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards were swept by Utah seniors Amber Walter and Kelsey Patterson for the women, while TCU swept the men's side with senior Guillermo Ramirez and sophomore R.J. Hesselberg earning plaudits. Hesselberg received his third honor of the season and Walter earned her second, while Ramirez and Patterson were selected for the first time this year. Walter, a Kalispell, Mont., native, won four events in the Utes' league win at TCU Saturday. She helped the 200 medley relay (1:46.44) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.69) to wins, while also being victorious in two individual events. She won in the 50 free in a 23.34 clocking, just .75 seconds off her MWC leading time, while also winning the 100 free in 52.16. Patterson, from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, beat TCU's four-time MWC Diver of the Week Jennifer Ferguson in both the one-meter and three-meter dives in Saturday's conference contest. Patterson scored a 303.08 in the three-meter dive and a 282.30 in the one-meter, winning each event by more than 50 points. Ramirez, a native of Cali, Colombia, won three events to lead the TCU men past Utah at the Frogs' senior day Saturday. He swept the backstroke events, posting the third best time in the MWC this season with a 50.29 in the 100 back. He then clocked a 1:50.25 in the 200 back before winning the 200 IM in 1:53.29 to rank seventh in the league this season. Ramirez also recorded a 22.42 split to lead his 200 medley relay team to a 1:32.45 victory, bettering TCU's previous third-ranked MWC time of 1:33.13. Hesselberg won the three-meter dive and finished second in the one-meter event. The Saskatoon, Canada, native earned the fifth-best score in TCU history with a 331.58 in the three-meter dive, while posting a 266.55 in the one-meter event.
