COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State sophomore Heather DeFelice and BYU senior Rachel Smith Kunkel were named the Mountain West Conference Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for their performances last week. DeFelice, a native of Culver City, Calif., captured first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke in the Aztecs’ dual-meet victories against Utah and Loyola Marymount, Jan. 6. At the UC Irvine Distance and Individual Relays competition, Jan. 8, DeFelice recorded SDSU’s fastest time of the year and fourth best all time in the 200 Individual Medley, good for sixth place in the competition. She also swam the fifth best time in Aztec history in the 100 backstroke in her first time competing in the event this season. DeFelice owns the fastest times by an Aztec this season in five different events in just her first year with San Diego State. Kunkel, a senior All-American from West Valley City, Utah, earned a third-place finish on the 1-meter board in a field of 49 divers at the 2000 All-American Diving Inivitational with a score of 412.70. Kunkel also place 16th in a field of 45 divers on the 3-meter board at the event held in Austin, Texas, Jan. 5-6.
