BYU Men's Alumni Meet a Success

Coach Powers is pleased with team's progress to this point.

Sept. 21, 2007

PROVO, Utah - The men's swimming team had a fun and relaxing evening on Friday at its Alumni Meet at the Richards Building Pool. This meet is held every year during Homecoming week.

"It was a fun event for everyone in attendance-- current athletes, alumni and spectators," BYU coach Tim Powers said. "It was a relaxed meet, but we still saw some impressive swims from our team."

Alumni that competed were Brett Allen (2007), Chris Patience (2007), Jorge Azevedo (2007), Dave Scott (2007), Nick Tobler (2006), David Larson (2006) and Glenn Abernethy (1996).

The alumni swimmers were well represented in almost every event. They were often right along side with the current BYU swimmers and even came out on top a couple of times. Notably, Brett Allen won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.03 and the alumni team won the 200 free relay.

Not only were there seven alumni swimmers who competed in the pool but Coach Powers also noted that five other alumni were sitting in the stands enjoying the event as spectators.

"I am happy with the turnout we had from alumni this evening," Coach Powers commented. "I also was impressed with our team tonight. We had some surprising swims. We had guys swimming in events they don't normally do. And when you consider we have only been practicing for a week, I was pleased with how we looked."

The men's swim team will next be in action on Oct. 12 in Salt Lake City for the Don Reddish Relays.
