LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming freshman Lindsey Russenberger swam to a 39th place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke, today, at the 2005 World Championship Trials in Indianapolis, Ind.

Russenberger, a native of Marana, Ariz., finished the race in a time of 1:15.15, which was the 39th fastest time in the national field.

Olympian Tara Kirk and Jessica Hardy earned a spot in this summer's World Championships by finishing in the top-two of the event. Kirk won the race in a time of 1:07.11 and Hardy finished second with a time of 1:07.83. Kirk missed the American record by just six-hundredths of a second.

Both Russenberger and senior Scott Usher will return to the pool on Tuesday for the 200-meter breaststroke. Russenberger will swim the event as a time trial while Usher will be in search of a birth to this summer's World Championships. Tuesday's preliminaries will begin at 9 a.m. and the finals will begin at 6 p.m. (local time)
