Laramie, Wyo. -- University of Wyoming junior Scott Usher placed second in the 200 meter breaststroke at the 2004 NCAA Championships, Saturday night at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y.

The Grand Island, Neb. native swam to a second place time of 2:07.66 in the event. University of Texas standout Brendan Hansen completed a sweep of the breaststroke events by winning the 200 in a NCAA record time of 2:04.73. This is the fourth consecutive year Hansen has won both breaststroke events.

Usher's second place finish earned him All-American honors for the second day in a row, after placing third in the 100 yesterday. This is the third All-American selection for Usher, as he was honored following his sixth place finish in the 200 at last year's championships.

"I am excited for Scott and couldn't be more proud of him," said UW head coach Tom Johnson. "He did a great job of representing our university this weekend. It is another great day for Wyoming swimming. Scott is one great Cowboy."

Usher earned Wyoming 33 team points at the championships which makes the Cowboys the 22nd ranked team in the nation.

"One of the goals we set a long time ago was to be a top-25 program and it is great for our team to see that happen," added Johnson.
