Scott Usher Places Third in 100 Breaststroke at 2004 NCAA Championships

Laramie, Wyo. -- University of Wyoming junior Scott Usher placed third in the 100 meter breaststroke, Friday at the 2004 NCAA Championships. The championships are being held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center, in East Meadow, N.Y.

Usher, a Grand Island, Neb. native, became an All-American for the second time in his career with a third place finish of 59.01. Brendan Hansen, from the University of Texas won the event, for the second consecutive year, with a time of 58.19. Auburn's Mark Gangloff placed second with a time of 58.78.

"I am extremely pleased with Scott's performance, he raced really well," said UW head coach Tom Johnson. "It was a very close race all the way. Scott had the second fastest 50 and was right on Brendan Hansen's tail the whole way."

Usher will compete in the 200 meter breaststroke tomorrow as he tries to improve upon his sixth place finish at last year's NCAA Championships. Preliminary action is set to begin at noon with the finals scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
