ATLANTA - UNLV dropped to 24th place after the second day of action on Friday at the 2006 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center.

Two Rebels swam in the morning preliminaries, as senior Joe Bartoch just missed out on making the night scoring heats, finishing in 19th place in the 100 yard fly in 47.80. The 19th place is the highest individual finish in Bartoch's four-year career at UNLV, with his previous best finish at the NCAA meet being 38th in the 100 fly in the 2005 meet.

Richard Hortness competed in the 200 yard free as well, and placed 41st with a time of 1:39.07.

With 18 points, earned from its ninth place finish in the 200 free relay on Thursday, UNLV stands in 24th place, one point behind Ohio State and Texas A&M (tied 22nd). is just two points behind NC State (15th) and four behind Tennessee (14th). Arizona has moved into the overall team lead with 336.5 points, while Auburn is close behind in second with 331.5 points. Stanford is a distance third with 244.5 points. Also from the Mountain West Conference, Utah is 20th (21 points), Air Force is 28th with 11 points, and BYU is 32nd with five points.

The three day meet concludes on Saturday.
