BYU's Goodson Comes Away From NCAA's An All-American Goodson finishes 14th in the 100 fly.
March 18, 2006
ATHENS, Ga. - Swimmers Angela Goodson and Jamie Bloom represented BYU at the NCAA National Championships at the University of Georgia this past week. Goodson was named NCAA Second-Team All-American for her performance in the 100-yard butterfly. Goodson scored three points for BYU, finishing 14th overall in the 100 fly with a final time of 54.30 which put BYU 39th in the nation after Friday's competition. "Both of the girls did a very nice job and swam really well," said Coach Stan Crump. "Nobody figured we'd score any points, but here we are coming away with an NCAA All-American!" Bloom swam the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and came in 34th and 37th respectively. In the 100 she clocked in at 1:03.71, a faster time than what she swam at the Mountain West Conference Championships and a personal best. She swam the 200 breast in 2:17.77. Goodson competed in the 100 fly on Friday where she went a 54.07 in prelims and a 54.30 at finals, finishing 14th overall in the nation. She also competed Thursday in the 200 Individual Medley and placed 39th overall and beat her MWC Championship time of 2:03.00 by almost a whole second, clocking in at 2:02.35. This meet concludes the season for the women's swim and dive team. Check www.byucougars.com/swimming_diving/ for season reviews for both the men's and the women's teams.
