Basketball Tournament FAQ

December 1, 2004

How can I purchase the best tickets to the basketball championship?

The best tickets can be purchased by contacting your favorite Mountain West Conference member institution's athletic ticket office. Each institution is assigned 450 all-session tickets in team blocks and these are the best available seats to the general public. To find your institution's athletic ticket office number, please visit the TheMWC.com ticket page.

When will the times and the brackets in the Mountain West tournament be announced? Currently the sessions are noted but not the brackets. Also, in the past UNLV was given the late night slot, will the #1 team be given this time slot this year since the tournament will be in Denver?

The brackets for the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championships will be announced on TheMWC.com on Saturday evening, March 5, once all games of the regular season are concluded.

The men's quarterfinal bracket is developed in conjunction with MWC television partner ESPN. Being the #1 seed has never been a factor in playing in the evening session.

I heard a rumor that beer would not be available at the basketball tournament in Denver. You have always allowed beer to be served in Las Vegas, why would it not be available at Pepsi Center?

Beer will be available at Pepsi Center concession stands during the tournament. This was a rumor. However, we ask that everyone drink responsibly.

Why would you move the basketball championships out of Las Vegas?

It was determined by the membership of the Mountain West Conference that a neutral site would be in the best interests of the basketball championships. After receiving bids from numerous cities throughout the West, Pepsi Center and Denver were chosen to host the 2004, 2005 and 2006 MWC Basketball Championships.

The tournament site will be reviewed again in April 2005, but the student-athletes, coaches and administrator voiced strong support for Pepsi Center and Denver after the 2004 championships. Pepsi Center is an NBA facility, will host the NBA All-Star game in February and the City of Denver has shown that it strongly supports NCAA Basketball.

There is nothing to do in Denver.

On the contrary, there is probably as much, if not more, to do in Denver as there was in Las Vegas. In fact, along 16th Street in downtown Denver, which is less than 5 minutes from Pepsi Center, there are over 300 restaurants to choose from. Downtown Denver has numerous things to offer, including a world-class aquarium, shopping and nightlife. ESPN Zone is just minutes away and there are three restaurants right at Pepsi Center. Why would I want to come to Denver when it was 80 degrees in Las Vegas during the tournament?

Did you know that during the 2003 MWC Basketball Championships, it was 80 degrees in Las Vegas and 75 degrees in Denver at the same time? Also, during the two week run of the MWC and NCAA Basketball Championships in Denver, the weather was 65+ degrees each day. Denver is known for its 300 days of sunshine and moderate temperatures during the month of March.

Does everyone need a ticket to enter Pepsi Center?

Everyone, except for lap children under the age of two, will need a ticket to enter Pepsi Center for the 2005 Mountain West Conference Basketball Championships.

Is there a special ticket price for students?

Single-session tickets are available for students for $10 per session. A student is defined as a child all the way to a college student with a valid student ID. Student tickets may be purchased at the Pepsi Center box office only.
